Printing on site with my Sony Snaplab for CTRC Cancer Research fund raiser

I had an early call this morning from a friend working the event photography for the 18th annual Vulcan Materials Funshoot, a competition to benefit the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex. The event organizers were trying to print photos onsite with a photo quality color laser printer supplied by a vendor but it was not suited well at all for printing souvenir photos on site.  They asked if I would mind donating time, services and prints… by the way can I get there as soon as possible.

I usually like to prep and run the gear well before the event but no time for this one.  I was lucky I just received a shipment of supplies for it and so I loaded up my Macbook Pro laptop, supplies and my Sony SnapLab and headed to the location.

Supplies – 4×6 print ribbons and paper rolls.

When I arrived we loaded images from several cameras and started some test printing. We were able to get one of our contacts to e-mail the logos for the event and put them into Adobe Photoshop to arrange them to fit centered across the bottom of the print. I converted the footer to a transparent PNG file type and added a white glow for contrast. I then added it to LightRoom as a watermark graphic and positioned it appropriately centered at the bottom of the print. This worked out perfectly and the event organizers as well as the participants were pleased and duly impressed with the speed and efficiency of the SnapLab.  We printed souvenier photos for each team member.

“Bud Girls” at the Kiss 99.5 Bud Light Port Paradise Music Festival Launch Party

Budweiser is putting on a nationwide publicity campaign and promoting it in local launch parties. I teamed up with Lester Rosebrock to provide coverage.  Lester took care of candids on the floor and I was asked to provide onsite printing from shots  using a custom backdrop constructed by the promoters. The crowd was smaller than the last one I shot for them and it was a relief.  It was in the same location at Sunset Station in San Antonio so I used the same lighting which worked well last time.

Lighting consisted of a 60″ Chimera Octabox above camera and a 36 Chimera Octabox over the backdrop for a hairlight.  I tethered my 5D MKI with a 24-105 f/4 @ f/11 1/160 ISO 200 to an Apple MacBook Pro and connected my Sony UPC printer.

Supplies – 4×6 print ribbons and paper rolls.

I provided 4×6 prints for the guests as requested by the promoters and the printer worked flawlessly for the entire event putting out around 200 prints total.

I processed a couple of the images with Alienskin and OnOne plugins for interesting effects and placed all the images online for the promoters and participants to view.

Covered the Beat Bash again this year by myself.  There weren’t any really big names at the venue but that didn’t keep me from getting some interesting shots.

Xpel Headlight Installation Kit – Round 3 – Final

Seems like I’ve worked on this one forever but yesterday I received the final sign off from the customer saying they are happy with this latest version and are ready to release it.  You can watch it here:

It took 3 total reworks to get it to the final release. It was our first time working together and they have never dealt with video before. Now they’d like to create a video to use at the upcoming conference showing highlights from the entire car installation.  I think this might go better or at least I’m hoping it will since we’ve all learned from this one.

In house talent was used for the voice over (VO) to save money and it was a little rough but cost effective for this particular application.  I used royalty free music from premiumbeat.com and was also able to get a sound effect for the logo animation I created in Apple Motion.  The pricing was more in line with their budget compared to some of the other sources charging by the second and hitting even harder for looping.
