Photoshop for Restoration – Math Nerds Nail It

I don’t know of any other tool as capable for photo restorations as Photoshop.  I upgraded to CS 5.5 from CS 3 early this year and didn’t realize until recently, all the improvements that came with the upgrade. I’ve been working on a project to build a commemorative slideshow from prints going back to the early 1900’s and it has been a major time saver on a project with limited time and budget.

The newest updates to the healing brush are almost hard to believe. It apparently recognizes patterns etc and matches them.  Who knew higher math could have such an awesome application as the algorithms behind this feature… so incredible and efficient – so fast. In the sample below the clean up was quick. I even left in some of the original wear and tear to retain the patina and character of the photo (and stay within budget). With a little more time I could rework the tie and finish the cleanup where you would think it was an original. I have to give the credit to the math nerds. They really hit the nail on the head with this tool.
